Craigmillar Food Hub Update

11th August 2021 by Edible Edinburgh
Craigmillar growers

An update on what’s going on with Community Alliance Trust’s Food Hub work in Craigmillar.

An update on what’s going on with Community Alliance Trust’s Food Hub work in Craigmillar.

We’ve restarted gardening sessions at the White House and Bristo Church on Thursdays and Saturdays, when anyone is welcome to join in, lend a hand and take a share of the fruit and veg that we’re growing. This spring we’ve also been busy renovating the White House garden, with young trainees joining our Growing Youth programme.

The Food Bank at Bristo Church remains closed, but we’re finding other outlets for our produce, including Edinburgh Food Social, who have brought their Food Truck to the White House for some very popular picnic lunches, and a new community pantry run by Community Renewal at the Hays Business Centre in Niddrie. Community Alliance Trust is also renovating the Green House on Niddrie Mains Road, where we’ll be opening another pantry later this year. We’re learning from Fresh Start’s success in developing community pantries in north Edinburgh, and linking them with community gardens.
