About
Bruntsfield’s community owned, not for profit greengrocer. Our purpose is to serve the community through food – strengthening community through the food we buy, cook and eat every day. Fresh, healthy, seasonal organic and non-organic produce, sourced as locally as we can, established 2013.
Commitment to sustainability
We are working towards sustainability across multiple areas; from our engagement with suppliers to our daily conversations with customers. Encouraging our community to adopt more plant based eating is likely to be the largest sustainability impact we can have as a community organisation. We do this through stocking high quality, local, fresh and seasonal fruit, vegetables, whole-foods and by hosting tastings and recipe shares as well as promoting the climate, biodiversity and wider (e.g. health) benefits of more plant based eating.
We sell food as locally sourced as we can, minimising food miles and promoting healthy, seasonal eating. We actively work with our suppliers to minimise packaging, reduce plastic and to reuse and recycle as much package as we can. We offer reusable glass bottles of oat milk and dairy milk – operating a deposit return scheme for Brose regular and barista oat milk and taking glass bottles back for our Wee Isle of Gigha and McQueens Dairies milks. We also recycle egg cartons for our lovely organic suppliers East Coast Organics and work with local food waste groups to minimise our own food waste.
