About
Edinburgh food social is a social enterprise teaching young people and communities about local, seasonal and sustainable food. We work in schools and offer Good Food apprenticeships as well as hosting dinners and events that profile seasonal Scottish produce and cooking. Our food based work anchors numeracy, literacy, teamwork, communication skills and much more. 100% of the young people that we have worked with say that our activities have inspired them to cook more often. We believe that everyone in Scotland deserves to have access to the great produce we have on our doorstep and the means to cook with it if they want to.
Commitment to sustainability
Edinburgh Food Social is committed to helping our community and the environment. We focus on using local and seasonal produce which not only reduces its carbon footprint and supports local producers but ensures the produce tastes amazing. We use about 80kg of waste food every week and work with farms and producers to use their excess produce to ensure nothing goes to waste. Wherever possible we deliver our catering and retail products through sustainable bike delivery company Farr Out. We do not use disposable containers for our meals but instead a variety of biodegradable packaging to ensure that our meals aren’t simply helping people but we are reducing the amount of plastic we use for a healthier, greener environment.
We’re achieving these goals
- Actively working to reduce carbon emissions
- Reducing food waste
- Using electric vehicles or cargo bikes for shop and customer deliveries
- Using local suppliers
