Earth in Common receive funding for the Nourishing Leith Hub

11th February 2021 by Vivienne Swan

Edible Edinburgh partners, Earth in Kind (previously known as Leith Community Crops in Pots) has received funding for its Nourishing Leith Hub.

Earth in Kind is a grassroots organisation based in a densely populated and deprived urban area. The organisation aims to advance environmental protection and foster well-being by creating access to nature and good food and providing environmental education to children and adults.

The organisation’s croft houses a dilapidated old pavilion building – used to store tools and toilets there, but the leaking roof and general disrepair make it near impossible to use. At the same time, the organisation needs a stable home. The organisation sought to raise match-funding to renovate the building.

The awarded funding will now realise the full vision of the repair, the space will provide a community café, two meeting rooms for community members, a workshop space, an office and an outbuilding. This building will be an essential point to nurture encounters, mutual support and learning across the diverse community of Leith. This will increase the communities’ resilience and help continue the organisations work to foster well-being, nature connection and biodiversity.

A fantastic project that will inspire those across Edinburgh and beyond. Read the full news story here.
