Edinburgh’s Shoreline

20th July 2018 by Fiona Macleod

As part of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s (RBGE) Shoreline project, local communities have been exploring the rich natural and cultural heritage of Edinburgh’s 27 km of coastline.

Edinburgh’s Shoreline exhibition was created in collaboration with these communities to celebrate Edinburgh’s relationship with the sea and provides a vision for the use of this wonderful natural resource for generations to come.

Featured as part of this exhibition is the Friends Group story of Granton’s secret medieval garden. Find out more about the survival story of a forgotten walled garden on Granton’s shore, now remembered and cherished thanks to the Smith’s Written in Film and many more local residents getting involved.

Alongside this exhibition, look out for science and arts activities. Take part in exploring our shoreline at RBGE and at venues  along the coast.

The exhibition will run from Saturday 23 June to Sunday 23 September 2018 from 10am to 5.45pm at the John Hope Gateway building in the Botanics.

It is free to enter and all are welcome!

Edinburgh has become the first European capital to endorse a plant-based diet to tackle the climate emergency.

“We are acknowledging that food systems are a main driver of the climate ..”
