Food Sharing Edinburgh is launching a cargo bike crowdfunding campaign from June 12th to July 12th in order to raise £15,000.
In central Edinburgh, 27 tonnes of food goes to waste every week. Food Sharing Edinburgh want to make a big impact on this by opening Scotland’s first excess food supermarket – known as the Food Sharing Hub. In order to transport all those extra kilos, the cargo bikes will be essential to stock the hub, opening in January 2019.
They are aiming to purchase two Urban Arrow XL Cargo Bikes. They’re a low carbon solution, while still able to carry nearly as much food as a van. The funds will also go towards training for the riders, repair tools, waterproof clothes, spare batteries and the necessary safety gear.
They need help to get the word out about their crowdfunding campaign. A supporters pack is available to download
