Fairtrade Fortnight: The impacts of climate on local and global communities

24th February 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 4:45 pm

Free

The facts are straightforward – farmers and workers in the Global South, who have done the least to contribute to climate change, are disproportionately affected. Shifting the dialogue by placing these individuals at the centre of the climate conversation is essential. Progressing the development of climate resilient trade economies where human rights and environmental sustainability intersect must start by listening to those most at risk.

This event will bring together individuals across the Fairtrade system – we will be joined by a Fairtrade producer, a climate change expert, and a local Fairtrade business to speak about what Fairtrade means to them, and how the individual can drive long-term change. The Department of Social Responsibility and Sustainability will be raffling off vouchers for Fairtrade products sourced from a local business.

This event will examine how the Fairtrade system is addressing the challenges that climate change brings to workers in the Global South.

This event is open to all University of Edinburgh students and staff. We also welcome interested members of the community and friends of the University.
