Scottish Food Coalition Food Stories

18th December 2020 by Vivienne Swan

Over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Scottish Food Coalition has collected individuals’ food stories across Scotland, from the Highlands and Islands, to the Borders, Fife and beyond. The Coalition have collated the stories and shared those receive in a new Food Stories digital database. These are the voices of real people from our food system and communities – from farmers and food bank users to community groups and asylum seekers. These stories showcase the challenges we face, as well as the opportunities, in Scotland’s food system. They illustrate why we need to prioritise the wellbeing of people and our environment when we’re making decisions about out food system. The Coalition want to add stories to their wheel, so that they can continue to grow this rich and varied collection of experiences and to help us speak up for change. As the Scottish Government develops its Statement of Policy on Food, it is vital that people across Scotland are heard by decision-makers and that they feel empowered to speak up for, and demand, the changes need. Please visit the project at www.foodstories.foodcoalition.scot to explore the collection so far and don’t forget to share your own story.
